The Best Vegan Pizza in Guam USA - Pieology
Guam isn't known for having a whole lot of vegan food, but things are changing on this beautiful island for the better. A handful of plant-based eateries are popping up in town and more and more restaurants are offering vegan options. Chamorros (local islanders) are options for healthier food choices and the trend is gaining traction. One restaurant chain that is taking full advantage of this is Pieology and we're so happy that they offer fully 100% vegan pizzas at all of their two locations around Guam.
What is Pieology?
Pieology is a build-your-own pizza joint where you get to choose a crust and then decorate it with any toppings that catch your fancy.
Is Pieology Expensive?
The best part about Pieology is that it's super affordable and is fast! You can order a pizza and have it baked with 10 minutes or less. When I came here the line was pretty long but the staff is efficient about getting the orders done and putting those pies in the oven as quickly as possible.
How does Pieology Work?
The way it works is you get in line and it all begins by selecting your crust. They have a lot of different choices for this such as thin crust, wheat crust, gluten-free, cauliflower, etc.
For vegan options, Pieology offers an awesome gluten-free crust that tastes good. I've had gluten-free crusts before that aren't that great tasting, but this one is an exception.
Next, you select your sauce for your pizza. For vegans, I like to do a little bit of olive oil and then some classic red sauce. There are other sauces on offer such as pesto or white sauce but they are not vegan because they contain dairy.
Does Pieology offer Vegan Cheese?
Pieology now offers vegan Daiya Cheese which is amazing because now you can get a legit vegan pizza here, and feel normal. I remember going to other pizza places with my family and not being able to get cheese which is a bummer, so this made my experience much more enjoyable. The vegan Daiya cheese option is also great for folks who are intolerant to dairy or just want to eat more plant-based foods for their health.
And then the best part of the entire pizza-making process is when you choose your toppings! This is the fun part for me. There are so many different vegan options to choose from when it comes to toppings at Pieology.
Vegan Toppings at Pieology
- Daiya Cheese
- Black Olives
- Banana Pepper
- Green Bell Peppers
- Fresh Tomatoes
- Sun-dried Tomatoes
- Fresh Garlic
- Fresh Basil
- Artichoke Hearts
- Vegan Meat Substitutes (Our favorite is the vegan meatballs)
If you choose "Build your own Pizza" which is a set price, you are allowed to choose an unlimited amount of toppings for your pizza. When I eat at Pieology, I always do the 'Build your own Pizza' because I think it's a really good deal, and I don't have to worry about the price of each ingredient, I just get whatever I want.
Vegans will rejoice that Pieology has just rolled out a new line of vegan proteins available for your pizzas or salad. The vegan proteins include Italian sausage rounds (my absolute favorite) as well as vegan diced chicken and faux "beef" meatballs. They do taste like meat but it's awesome because they are 100% made from plants.
I had my husband's grandma try this out without telling her it was vegan and she liked it. When I told her she just ate vegan sausage, she was shocked because she really couldn't tell the difference. For only $1 upgrade, you can get your selection of vegan meats (about 3 ounces worth).
At first, I was skeptical, but they give you a decent amount of vegan meat for an affordable price, so I think it's a lot of value for only $1 extra.
After you're done adding your toppings to your pizza the staff will throw it into a wood-fire oven so that it can cook to perfection. The staff will give you a number for your table if you're dining in and they'll serve you your pizza once it's ready so you don't have to wait around staring at the oven for it to finish. It usually takes only a couple minutes to bake the vegan pizza which is super quick!
How did my vegan pizza taste?
Let me just say this is officially my new favorite pizza chain. I think I prefer Pieology now over other vegan friendly pizza chains that I've tried (but maybe I should do another taste testing to compare the two!)
My vegan pizza at Pieology was so incredibly tasty! It arrived steaming hot and with beautiful melted vegan cheese, and all of my veggies were cooked nicely.
Does Pieology they sell other food?
Yes, they offer vegan friendly salads as well. It works pretty much the same. You chose either romaine lettuce or spinach and then you can add as many toppings as you want for a set price (I paid $9.99) They also offer vegan cheese for your salad at no additional cost and a variety of salad dressings, I went with balsamic dressing which was mostly olive oil (it could have been better) Overall, the salad was okay tasting but I think I'll stick to their much better pizzas.
How could Pieology improve their vegan options?
I'm hoping that they'll roll out some vegan cookies to add to their menu so that there will be a vegan dessert option at all locations (let's just cross our fingers for this one).
One thing I wasn't keen on was that I saw a couple of shreds of dairy cheese in the red sauce container. I would love to see their sauces separated from the dairy products to eliminate contamination issues, it was also just a little icky to see cheese floating in their sauces.
I enjoyed my meal at Pieology. I'm a true fan of their vegan pizza and now a loyal customer. I love how they are a chain so if I'm on the road I can just look them up and find a location to eat anywhere in the USA. I have eaten here probably half a dozen times already and each time has been consistently good, so I would recommend this restaurant if you are looking for vegan pizza. It's also a great place to go to with your omnivore friends and family because there is something for everyone here.
